Friday Finds to Get You Through This Complex Sphere of Life (04/30/10)

Wohoo! Welcome to another long weekend.

Tomorrow is May 1. The date close to my heart. It’s the day I fell in love…with Berlin.

Yes, romance may have come into the mix (and been part of the adventure), but the true unyielding passion was for the crazy, mind-blowing German capital. The transient city seduced, challenged and changed my view of life and the world at large.

Berlin is unlike any other metropolis I’ve ever been to. So, whether you’re thinking about traveling there or are already living in the city (or just plain curious), check out my article “Berlin on the Cheap” on Matador Trips.

Also check out this kickass vid of a Doner Party (I was there that night! though I’m not sure if you can see me in the video.)

As cliché as it sounds, I came to Europe with just a rucksack on my back and head full of dreams.

Sacrificing a steady job in San Francisco, took a leap of faith and journeyed to the Old Continent without a safety net.  And I can still say- no matter how life has thrown me backwards and forwards- that it was still the best decision I ever made.

It is raining now. As I look out my window, I see a river of lights — car headlights depicting the steady flow of Manila traffic.

Speaking of traffic, here’s an old video I made while driving through Manila featuring the Music of Bright Eyes.

I wonder if I’ll miss this city as much as I do Berlin.

I probably will.

So here’s to a happy Friday and an even better weekend.

Shake off the dust of your daily lives and wind down with a glass of wine and a nice book. If travel is what gets you going, then my previous post on Pico Iyer’s “Video Night in Kathmandu” may just be thing for you.

If you’re hoping to explore your city like a photojournalist, then you may want to check out the Guardian’s article on the changing face of street photography.

Speaking of journalism, so what exactly do journalists like? Well, here’s a blog (aptly titled, “www.stuffjournalistslike.com”) to answer all your questions (and maybe even make you chuckle).

On sad news, it looks like hope to clean up the mess from oil spill grows dimmer as each day passes…

Feeling like time’s getting away from you? Even hitting the refresh button on your facebook adds up, you know…so if you’ve been spending too much time on the net, read this and give yourself a swift kick in the butt.

Speaking of wasting time, here’s a list of reminders that freelancers should remember NOT to do

But to stay on a positive note, take stock of what Hemingway says about keeping the eagerness to write alive:

“You write until you come to a place where you still have your juice and know what will happen next and you stop and try to live through until the next day when you hit it again.”

And just to get you motivated, check out TIME Magazine’s list of the World’s 100 Most Influential People.

Long weekend = PARTY!!!

Check out the fusion of experimental film and music at this rockin’ outdoor event in manila — Innovative Noise at the Park

Let’s get the weekend started with some chill sounds…
